Anthony Auger is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, leading the Behavioral Neuroendocrinology Lab. His research focuses on the epigenetic organization of juvenile brain and behavior, particularly how sex differences in neuroepigenetic mechanisms influence risk or resilience to early-life adversity and mental health disorders. He joined the ERP Program in 2021 and advises students in neuroscience and psychology.
Education: Ph.D., University of Massachusetts, Amherst (MA, USA). Research interests include the impact of early environmental factors on neurodevelopment, with emphasis on juvenile social disorders, anxiety, depression, and the effects of puberty blockers on social development. Collaborators include experts in comparative biosciences, pediatric urology, and primate research.
Key publications explore topics such as puberty blockers reducing sex differences in juvenile behavior, epigenetic markers of early-life stress, and opioid receptors in social behavior. Trainees include current students Thomas Niepsuj and Anna Jesch, with past advisee Gabriela de Faria Oliveira earning a PhD in 2023. The lab investigates hormonal influences on adolescent social development and employs animal models to study trauma and mental health.
