Anta Anthony Merritt serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at San Diego State University (SDSU), where he has held academic positions for over twenty years, transitioning from lecturer to assistant professor in 2022.

Complementing this, he investigates psychosocial benefits of Africa Diaspora martial arts practices among urban African American youth, emphasizing cultural continuity and identity formation.
