Anouk Everts is a PhD student and teacher affiliated with the University of Cologne's Department for Egyptology. Her research focuses on gender and sexuality in archaeology, cultural interaction in Hellenistic Egypt, and archaeological education methodologies. She holds a Master's degree in Near Eastern and Mediterranean Archaeology from Leiden University and has extensive archaeological fieldwork experience in Egypt and the Levant.
Education:
- 2018–Present: MSCA Fellow/PhD candidate at University of Cologne
- 2013–2016: Research Master in Near Eastern Archaeology at Leiden University
- 2010–2013: Bachelor's in Archaeology at Leiden University
Her research interests integrate social archaeology with gender studies, exploring how material culture reflects societal values in multicultural Hellenistic contexts. She has developed educational programs for diverse age groups and contributed to exhibitions such as the 'Keukengeheimen' food-lab at Rotterdam's Wereldmuseum.
Publications span archaeological pedagogy, Byzantine urban studies, and gender analysis in domestic spaces. Her current project examines terracotta figurines as markers of shifting sexual norms in Hellenistic Egypt.
Teaching experience includes designing primary/secondary/university-level archaeology curricula, organizing pre-university courses at Leiden University, and leading archaeological field schools in Israel and the Netherlands.
