Anouk Dieuleveut is a researcher in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Geneva, where she works on a project on indexical binding with Isabelle Charnavel. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Maryland (2021), advised by Valentine Hacquard and Alexander Williams, and previously conducted postdoctoral research at the Laboratoire de Linguistique Formelle (LLF) in Paris, funded by the Fyssen Fondation. She also served as a Course Lecturer/Research Trainee at McGill University. Her research focuses on modality, language acquisition, and cross-linguistic patterns in modal expressions, particularly in French. She is affiliated with the ModSquad (UMD/NYU modality group) and GRISP (Groupe de Recherche sur les Inferences de la Sémantique et Pragmatique).
Education: PhD in Linguistics (University of Maryland, 2021); CogMaster (Paris); McGill University appointment. Research explores how children grasp modal force distinctions (e.g., 'can' vs. 'must'), cross-linguistic variation in modal meanings, and implications for modal cognition. Her work engages with formal semantics and experimental pragmatics, often collaborating with scholars like Benjamin Spector and Emmanuel Chemla.
Professional memberships include ModSquad (modality research collaboration), GRISP (semantics/pragmatics group), and Paris reading groups. Current projects investigate French modals and indexical binding mechanisms. Though no specific awards are listed, her research has been supported by competitive funding including the Fyssen Foundation grant.
