Annika Padoan is a PhD candidate at the Dubnow Institute since October 2024, funded by the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich Scholarship Fund. Her research explores Holocaust memory, resistance movements, and the social history of the political left.
Education:
- M.A. in History, Political Sciences, and Cultural Studies (2022) from Leipzig, Jena, Ottawa, and Jerusalem universities; thesis on the Klaus Barbie trial (1987).
- Previous work: Editor at De Gruyter Brill (2023-2024).
Her research centers on Holocaust memory in the 20th and 21st centuries, analyzing conflicts of memory in historical trials like that of Klaus Barbie. She also investigates the social and intellectual history of the political left, resistance movements, and colonial atrocities, bridging historical analysis with memory studies to understand societal confrontation with traumatic pasts.
Her publications reflect expertise in Jewish history and historical documentation, including contributions to the 'Jewish Scholars at the University of Leipzig' portal and a register for a Bauhaus student magazine edition.
Scientific awards:
- Hubert Steiner Recognition Prize (2023) for outstanding academic work on resistance, persecution, and exile during fascism and National Socialism, and the history of the labor movement.
- Research grant by the Forum Anwaltsgeschichte (2023).
Funded by the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich Scholarship Fund, her doctoral research examines intersections of Holocaust memory, colonial history, and leftist intellectual traditions. She has not supervised any students.
