Dr. Annie Hasib is a Lecturer in Clinical Biochemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), holding the title of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and serving as a Carbon Literacy and Sustainability Champion. She specializes in diabetes and metabolic health, with research focusing on pancreatic islet function, extracellular matrix (ECM) effects on insulin resistance, and novel peptide therapies for diabetes. Her academic journey includes a PhD at Ulster University (supported by a Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarship) and postdoctoral work at the University of Dundee and University of Birmingham.
Teaching responsibilities span foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs, including units like Foundation Human Cell and Genetics and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She supervises research projects, provides academic mentoring, and integrates sustainability principles into her teaching aligned with UN SDGs.
Her research explores ECM’s role in β-cell survival, intercellular communication in pancreatic islets, and therapeutic peptides to combat diabetes. While no specific articles are listed, her work bridges clinical biochemistry and metabolic disease mechanisms.
Award highlights include FHEA and her doctoral scholarship. She actively contributes to MMU’s sustainability initiatives and academic leadership in life sciences education.
