Annie Bye

Dr. Annie Bye OAM is a Conjoint Associate Professor in the Discipline of Paediatrics at UNSW's School of Women's & Children's Health and a Senior Paediatric Neurologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital. Her expertise spans childhood epilepsy, neurogenetics, and medical education. She leads projects like the Paediatric Epilepsy Network NSW (PENNSW), which provides global educational resources for clinicians and families. Dr. Bye has held roles including Head of Paediatric Neurology at SCH (2012–2019) and has been recognized with the Order of Australia for contributions to paediatric neurology.

Education: MB BS Sydney, FRACP, Doctorate of Medicine (1996).
Research Focus: Genetic epilepsies, precision medicine, clinician resilience, and education evaluation. Her work includes qualitative studies on healthcare provider challenges and the development of tools like the GeneCompass information service.

Grants & Awards: Over $1 million in grants (NHMRC, Manildra Foundation), OAM (2016), and multiple teaching awards. She mentors trainees and has trained 6 higher-degree researchers in paediatric neurology/neurogenetics.

Teaching: Leads UNSW medical student education, online neurology teaching programs, and developed resources like the 'Finding A Way' video series for families. Evaluated over 80 educational tools via publications.
