Annette Årheim is a lecturer in Literary Studies with a didactic focus at Linnaeus University's Department of Film and Literature (Faculty of Arts and Humanities). She teaches literary studies within teacher training programs and conducts research on the functions of fiction in educational contexts and everyday life. Her doctoral thesis (2007) explored young readers' interpretive strategies toward literature's 'true stories.' In 2009, she secured a five-year Academy Researcher position from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to study identificatory reading in education.
Her research collaborations include work with Prof. Margareta Petersson on medical students' views of literature. Key publications include Misery Lit (2012), chapters on literary identification in Travels in Time and Space (2013), and peer-reviewed articles on literature in medical education and teacher didactics.
Research interests span literary pedagogy, cultural heritage, and the role of narrative in fostering empathy and critical thinking. She is affiliated with the Childhood research in literature, language and learning (CHILLL) group.
