Professor Annette Reineke is a distinguished academic at Hochschule Geisenheim, where she serves as Vice President for Research and Head of the Institute for Phytomedicine. She holds a professorship for Phytomedicine in Viticulture and Horticulture, reflecting her specialized expertise at the intersection of plant protection, entomology, and viticulture. With a career spanning over two decades since her PhD in 1998, Professor Reineke has established herself as a leading researcher in sustainable pest management for vineyards.
Her research interests focus on biological control methods using entomopathogenic fungi, the impact of climate change on plant-insect-pathogen interactions, and sustainable viticulture practices. Professor Reineke has published extensively on how elevated CO2 levels affect grapevine quality and insect herbivore performance, as well as how these changes might influence pest management strategies. Her recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on European grapevine moth management, soil microbial communities in vineyards, and the development of sustainable pest control methods that remain effective under changing climatic conditions.
Currently, Professor Reineke leads two major research initiatives: the POMORROW project investigating resistance to plant pathogens in potatoes, and the Entomology Conference 2025 addressing critical insect-related challenges in agriculture. Her work bridges fundamental entomological research with practical applications for sustainable viticulture, making significant contributions to both scientific knowledge and industry practices.
As Vice President for Research, Professor Reineke oversees the research strategy for Hochschule Geisenheim while maintaining an active research program. Her leadership extends to national and international scientific communities through her membership on the Scientific Advisory Board for the National Action Plan on Plant Protection and the Board of the German Society for General and Applied Entomology.
