Annette Gillies

Ms Annette Gillies is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Law and the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance. She brings extensive industry experience from major corporations like IBM and BT, where she specialized in accounting, lease pricing, and software implementation. Her academic work focuses on corporate risk-taking behaviors and employee/student motivation, informed by her practical background.

Her research explores how CEOs' personal characteristics influence risk preferences and the implications of regulatory changes in accounting standards. She has contributed to a qualitative study on the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the UK, analyzing shifting attitudes among accountants and regulators during the transition period.

She is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Her teaching responsibilities include undergraduate financial management modules, personal tutoring for students, and mentoring new staff members.
