Prof. Dr. Annette Eschenbach is a Professor of Soil Technology and Soil Protection at the University of Hamburg, affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences and the Department of Earth Sciences. She serves as Vice Dean for Studies, Teaching, and Career Development and leads the MIN Graduate Center (MINGZ). Her research focuses on soil properties, sustainable land use, and soil protection, with a strong emphasis on climate change adaptation in estuarine and urban soils.
- Education: PhD in Environmental Geoscience (1995, TU Hamburg-Harburg); Diplom in Geosciences/Applied Physical Geography (1991, University of Trier).
- Research Themes: Soil carbon stabilization mechanisms, biochar impacts on carbon sequestration, climate change effects on estuarine and floodplain soils, and sustainable agricultural practices in arid regions.
Recent publications highlight her work on litter decomposition in estuarine gradients, biochar feedback in sandy soils, and irrigation efficiency in Nepal. She collaborates extensively with projects like DFG-RTG 2530, BMBF’s SASSCAL, and CLICCS Cluster. Her leadership roles in graduate schools and advisory panels underscore her commitment to academic training and sustainability research.
