Anners Lerdal

Anners Lerdal is a Professor at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Public Health and Interdisciplinary Health Sciences. She is also employed at Lovisenberg Diakonale Hospital where she has served as Research Director since 2016. Her academic career spans nursing science, with a PhD from 1996 and Dr. philos from 2005, becoming Professor in 2009. She has held significant roles including Editor-in-Chief of Sykepleien Forskning (2008-2014) and Fulbright Scholar at UCSF (2009-2010).

Her research primarily focuses on fatigue management in neurological conditions, symptom management, patient education, and health-related quality of life. She leads research under the Research Group for Symptom Management and Quality of Life, the Research Group for Musculoskeletal Disorders at Lovisenberg Diakonale Hospital, and serves as deputy leader of the NORSMAN research network. Her work spans stroke rehabilitation, multiple sclerosis, orthopedic outcomes, and substance use disorders.

Lerdal's extensive publication record shows consistent research output through 2025, with recent work examining fatigue after stroke, digital health literacy in orthopedic patients, substance use in hospitalized patients, and symptom management in critical care. Her research demonstrates interdisciplinary collaboration across medical specialties with international partners including institutions in the USA, Russia, and Ethiopia.

She actively supervises master's and PhD students at the Faculty of Medicine and Department of Psychology, teaching PhD seminars in Nursing Science and courses in Systematic Physical Assessment for Advanced Geriatric Nursing. Her research collaborations span multiple institutions including Oslo University Hospital, Lovisenberg Diakonale Hospital, University of California San Francisco, and Jimma University in Ethiopia.
