Anneliesa Butler is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Society at the University of Sunderland, specializing in Health, Wellbeing and Care in Society. She teaches the BSc (Hons) Health, Wellbeing and Care in Society program, focusing on biopsychosocial approaches to health. Her academic leadership includes module coordination for HSC103, HSC204, and HSC308, alongside supervising undergraduate dissertations in areas such as health inequalities and somatic illnesses.
Her research concentrates on somatic symptom disorders, stigmatization, and healthcare inequalities, particularly examining epistemic injustice within patient-doctor relationships for those living with ME/CFS. She is currently completing a PhD titled ME and the true self: Stigmatisation of living with an invisible illness.
