Anne Roekens is a Researcher at the University of Namur, affiliated with the Namur Institute of Language, Text and Transmediality and the Centre for Vulnerabilities and Societies. She holds a Doctorate in History from the Catholic University of Louvain (2004). Her work focuses on media history, social history, and Belgian cultural identity, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of media, memory, and marginalized communities. She has led and contributed to research projects exploring topics such as the history of psychiatric institutions, WWI provisioning, and the role of television in shaping regional identities.
Her research interests include the history of media representation, the social history of Belgian institutions, and the ethical challenges of historical archives. Notable projects include studies on the Belgian psychiatric system during WWI, the cultural impact of television programs in Wallonia, and transnational histories of female students in Belgium.
Roekens has published extensively on topics ranging from 19th-century photography to the representation of war and social movements. She actively participates in academic conferences and collaborates with institutions like the Beau-Vallon psychiatric archive. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and social justice.
