Anne Pringle

Anne Pringle is a Professor in the Department of Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she leads the Pringle Laboratory. Her research focuses on the evolution and ecology of fungi, particularly natural populations of invasive species like Amanita phalloides (death cap), lichen demographics, and fungal responses to global change. She is actively involved in field research, genomic analysis, and public science communication.

Her research interests span fungal ecology, evolutionary biology, invasion dynamics, mycorrhizal symbiosis, and conservation. Using fungi as model organisms, her lab investigates broad ecological and evolutionary principles, including spore dispersal, gene birth, nitrogen deposition effects, and the evolutionary origins of toxicity. She emphasizes both field and molecular approaches.

The recent publications reflect a strong focus on invasive fungal species, particularly Amanita phalloides in California. Themes include biogeography, genetic origins, mycorrhizal relationships, reproductive strategies, and ecological impacts.
