Anne Mette Hansen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. Her academic work focuses on medieval and Renaissance Nordic textual culture, with particular expertise in manuscript studies, scholarly editing, and the history of utilitarian texts such as prayer books and medical almanacs. She is actively involved in teaching and research within the field of Old Norse and East Nordic language and literature.
Her primary research areas include artefactual and material philology, manuscript studies, and the history of the book. She specializes in medieval and Renaissance prayer books, medical texts, and encyclopedic works, employing diplomatics and digital humanities approaches. Her work often centers on the Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection and contributes to the preservation and dissemination of text-bearing cultural heritage through digital publication and text markup.
Over the past five years, Hansen's research output demonstrates a strong focus on Nordic medieval manuscripts, particularly Danish prayer books and verse romances. Her publications reveal trends in interdisciplinary scholarship that bridge philology, book history, and digital humanities, with significant contributions to understanding user interaction with medieval texts and the materiality of manuscripts.
Hansen actively supervises students in topics related to older Danish and Nordic language and literature, manuscript studies, and philology. She has been a member of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Research since 2021 and serves as an editor for the journal Studier i Nordisk. Additionally, she has co-organized the annual Summer School in Scandinavian Manuscript Studies since 2004, fostering international collaboration in manuscript studies.
