Anne McLeod

Dr. Anne McLeod is a Research Group Leader at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology (IGB) since 2024. She leads research in the Department of Plankton and Microbial Ecology, focusing on community ecology and ecosystem responses to environmental change using empirical and computational approaches.

Her research explores how species interactions mediate community and ecosystem responses to anthropogenic stressors like eutrophication and chemical contaminants. She integrates long-term datasets with mathematical models to forecast changes in freshwater systems under global change scenarios, emphasizing within-lake heterogeneity and biotic-abiotic couplings.

Recent publications address elemental diversity metrics for ecosystem function and subsidies in trophic webs. She is part of IGB’s new 'Predictive Ecology in the Anthropocene' programme, aiming to advance predictive frameworks for freshwater conservation.

Scientific awards include the NSERC fellowship during her postdoctoral work (2021–2024) at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
