Anne-Maria Magga is a Senior Researcher at the University of Lapland's Faculty of Social Sciences, affiliated with the Sustainable Naturecultures and Multispecies Future (SuMu) research group. She holds a Doctor of Social Sciences degree and specializes in Sámi Studies, Indigenous Rights, and Political Science. Her research focuses on legal systems of Indigenous peoples, colonialism, and environmental governance in the Arctic.

Research Interests:
Magga examines how Indigenous legal orders interact with state legislation, particularly regarding Sámi reindeer herding rights in Finland. She critiques colonial policies impacting Sámi livelihoods and advocates for decolonial governance frameworks. Her work integrates multispecies perspectives and environmental justice.
Current Projects:
- SÁMIPOLITY (2023–2027): Investigates Sámi political traditions and environmental co-becoming. Collaborators include Prof. Salla Valkonen and Ánna-Mari Aikio.
