Professor Anne-Kristine Mary Rydning is a leading academic in translatology and French studies at the University of Oslo's Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages (ILOS), where she also serves as Head of Research. Her work focuses on cognitive processes in translation, particularly conceptual metaphor/metonymy and expert translation strategies. She has led major projects like EYE-to-IT (EU FP6) and coordinates the ExperTrans network exploring meaning construction in translation. As a government-authorized translator (French-Norwegian), she has served as external examiner for Norway's translator accreditation exams for 15 years.
Her research integrates psycholinguistics with translation studies, employing EEG analysis and eye-tracking to study cognitive load and mental simulation during translation. Key themes include metaphor reformulation creativity, polysemy resolution, and human-AI collaboration in translation technology. She has coordinated European networks like EXPERTISE and directed projects on translation as cultural contact points.
Publications span 1990s to present, emphasizing translation cognition and conceptual blending theory. Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical translation challenges, influencing both academic discourse and professional translation practices.
