Anne Gatling is an Associate Professor of Education and Co-Program Director for STEM Education at Merrimack College's School of Education and Social Policy. Her work focuses on equitable access to STEM education, particularly in early childhood and elementary settings. She co-directs the Massachusetts Northeast STEM Network and organizes the annual 'Moon Over Merrimack' STEM Festival. Gatling holds a Ph.D. in Science Education & Policy from Boston College, an Ed.M. from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from McKendree University.
Her research emphasizes participatory action research at the intersection of teaching practices and community engagement. Key areas include teacher preparation, environmental science education, and addressing student misconceptions. She brings over a decade of K-8 teaching experience in rural and suburban Alaska schools, informed by her 1998 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching.
Gatling’s publications span STEM curriculum development, metacognitive strategies in education, and interdisciplinary collaboration in engineering education. Her awards include the prestigious Father John J. McKniff Honor Society recognition and a Zampell Faculty Fellowship. She actively bridges higher education with K-12 outreach through initiatives like the 'Engineer for a Day' program and community-focused STEM festivals.
