Anne Elise Steen-Hansen

Anne Elise Steen-Hansen is a Professor of Fire Engineering at NTNU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering. Her work focuses on fire safety engineering, building materials, and fire dynamics. She leads the Fire Research and Innovation Centre (FRIC), emphasizing proactive fire safety strategies and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Her research spans smoldering fires, photovoltaic systems, timber structures, and community fire safety education through initiatives like the “Bjørnis” program. Key projects include analyzing apartment building fires, PV facade safety, and fire spread in CLT buildings. She has published extensively in journals like Safety Science, Fire Technology, and Fire Safety Journal, with over 60 peer-reviewed articles since 2006.

Steen-Hansen advises on national fire safety policy and collaborates with institutions like SINTEF and RISE. Her contributions include advancing fire risk mitigation in historical wood buildings and developing fire-safe sustainable materials. She holds a PhD in Fire Engineering and serves on international fire safety committees.
