Anne Ehlers

Anne Ehlers, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School, affiliated with the Department of Surgery and the VA Ann Arbor Health System. She joined the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery on the Instructional Track in October 2019, focusing on bariatric surgery access, surgical outcomes, and healthcare decision-making.

Her research spans implementation science and quality improvement in hernia surgery. Recent publications examine sex-based complication disparities in hernia repair, preoperative frailty assessment, delayed surgery impacts on patient wellbeing, and robotic hernia techniques. She advocates for equitable access to bariatric and foregut surgery through surgical outcomes research.

Dr. Ehlers has received the American College of Surgeons' Rising Star award for advocacy efforts. Her work integrates clinical practice, education, and policy innovation.
