Prof. Anne Bénichou is a Professor at the School of Visual and Media Arts, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Previously, she held a professorship at the Department of Visual Arts, University of Ottawa (2001–2007). Her research focuses on archives, memory forms, and historical narratives emerging from contemporary art practices and institutions. She explores documentation methods for ephemeral artworks and their impact on cultural memory and art historiography.
Key publications include edited volumes like Recréer/Scripter (2015) on performative art transmission, and Un imaginaire institutionnel (2013) analyzing museum and archival practices. She also directs the Ouvrir le document collective work (2010) and curated Muntadas: Between the Frames (2011).
Her current research examines documentation of performance art, its role in exhibitions, and institutional memory preservation. She actively participates in international heritage discourse, addressing topics like intangible cultural heritage and contested patrimonial narratives.
