PD Dr. Anne Brüske is an academic in the Department of Transcultural Studies at Heidelberg University. She holds a PhD (2008) and Habilitation (2020) in Romance Philology, specializing in Caribbean diaspora literature, gender studies, and spatial theory. Currently leading the research group 'Caribbean-North America and Back,' she focuses on transcultural processes in literature and popular culture. Previously held roles include a postdoctoral position at the Excellence Research Group (2010–2017) and teaching German at Lyon's École Normale Supérieure (2004–2006).
Her research spans interdisciplinary cultural studies, with emphases on postcolonial spatial theory, transnational Caribbean diasporas, and gender dynamics. Key projects include organizing conferences on Caribbean food cultures and diaspora poetry. Supervised four PhD theses, including works on Guyanese Hindu communities, Jamaican dancehall, and US-Cuban literature.
Publications include monographs on Laclos' Liaisons dangereuses and contemporary Caribbean diaspora literature, as well as edited volumes on transcultural dialogues and Caribbean food practices. Active in academic leadership, she co-edits journals and oversees interdisciplinary initiatives linking cultural studies with sociopolitical contexts.
