Anne B. Fulton, MD is a distinguished researcher and clinician at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital, where she serves as Principal Investigator with continuous NIH funding for over 30 years. She divides her time equally between research and clinical practice, focusing on pediatric ophthalmology and visual development, and leads the Infant Vision Laboratory.

Her laboratory brought first-rate visual electrophysiology and psychophysics to the department, perfected non-invasive assessments of infant and child patients, and related normal developmental changes in retinal and visual function to underlying retinal biochemistry and structure. She demonstrated that rhodopsin content scales the developmental increment in dark-adapted retinal and visual sensitivity. More recently, she introduced adaptive optics imaging to provide non-invasive retinal assessments at a cellular level. Her currently funded research applies these procedures to study retinal disorders, particularly retinopathy of prematurity.
Her recent publications demonstrate a continued focus on retinal disorders, particularly retinopathy of prematurity, Stargardt disease, and other inherited retinal conditions. Her work combines clinical research with advanced imaging techniques to better understand disease mechanisms and improve diagnostic and treatment approaches. She has made seminal contributions to understanding photoreceptor development and function in infants and children, with particular emphasis on the role of rhodopsin in visual maturation.
