Dr Annalisa Martin is a Researcher at the University of Glasgow's Department of History, holding a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship. Her work focuses on gender, sexuality, welfare, and labor in modern Germany. Previously, she held positions at the University of Greifswald and the Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History in Potsdam, completing her PhD at Birkbeck College, University of London in 2022.
Her current research project explores a West German workhouse (1945–1979), emphasizing inmate experiences and gender/sexuality dynamics. She co-edits a source collection with Sonja Dolinsek on sex worker activist Marc-of-Frankfurt, set for 2025 publication. Key publications analyze welfare-state labor policies, gendered incarceration practices, and urban management of commercial sex.
