Annalee Lepp

Annalee Lepp is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Victoria, specializing in Gender Studies. She holds a PhD in History from Queen's University (2001). Her research spans Canadian gender and legal history, focusing on marital breakdown and domestic violence in 19th- and early 20th-century Canada, as well as modern issues like trafficking in persons and transnational migration. She co-founded the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) Canada in 1996 and currently directs its operations, emphasizing human rights advocacy and collaborative research on irregular migration and sex workers' rights.

Dr. Lepp has taught courses such as GNDR 201 (Gender, Food and Power), GNDR 302 (Sex Work, Trafficking and Human Rights), and advanced research seminars. She has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications and policy reports, including works on anti-trafficking campaigns, Olympic security’s impact on sex workers, and historical family structures. Her 2013 analysis of human trafficking during the Vancouver Olympics influenced Canadian policy discourse.

Recipient of the 2012-13 Harry Hickman Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching, she is also a nominee for the 3M National Teaching Fellowship. Her awards reflect her commitment to both academic rigor and pedagogical innovation. Affiliations include leadership roles in GAATW Canada, the Women’s and Gender Studies et Recherches Féministes journal, and the Peers Victoria Resource Society.
