Anna Żurek is a Professor and Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of Wrocław, Faculty of Philology. She also leads the Postgraduate Studies in Teaching Polish as a Foreign and Second Language and directs the School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners. Her academic background is in Polish philology with a focus on speech therapy and language hygiene.
Education: Polish philologist by training, with advanced specialization in speech therapy and language education. Active in professional organizations such as the 'Bristol' Association of Polish and Foreign Teachers of Polish Culture and the Polish Language Council, where she chairs the Polish Language Abroad Team.
Research Interests: Bilingualism, multilingualism, language acquisition, intercultural communication, and education of migrant/refugee children. Key topics include Polish as an inherited language in diaspora communities, refugee integration in schools, and language policy.
