Anna Zhukova is a Permanent Researcher at Institut Pasteur, Paris, France, affiliated with the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Hub and the Evolutionary Dynamics of Infectious Diseases group. Her research focuses on developing algorithmic and mathematical tools to understand pathogen transmission and evolution, with applications in phylodynamics, phylogeography, and drug resistance modeling. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bordeaux (2014) and an MSc in Software Engineering from St. Petersburg State University (2010).
Key roles include:
- PI of projects on HIV drug resistance, phylogeography, and contact tracing impact analysis
- Co-developer of software tools: PastML, bdct, treesimulator, and PhyloDeep
- Instructor for courses on molecular phylogenetics, Python programming, and systems biology
- Recipient of grants including ANR DEELOGENY (2023-2028) and HKU-Pasteur Research Pole Fellowships
Research interests span:
- Phylogenetic methods for outbreak analysis
- Mathematical modeling of pathogen spread
- Epidemiological parameter estimation from genomic data
- Computational tools for large-scale genomic datasets
Her work bridges theoretical models with practical applications, such as analyzing SARS-CoV-2 spread, canine rabies virus dynamics, and HIV resistance transmission in the UK.
