Anna Wargula

Anna Wargula is a Professor in the Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering Department at the United States Naval Academy. Her research focuses on coastal ocean physics, specifically addressing flooding mechanisms in coastal communities, marsh/beach erosion dynamics, and pollutant/nutrient transport processes affecting inland bays' ecological health. She employs field observations across diverse environments including Duck, NC beaches; estuaries in Massachusetts, Washington, and Connecticut; and inlets on Martha's Vineyard and New River Inlet, NC.

Her notable work at New River Inlet revealed storm-induced wave effects on inlet flooding. Currently, she collaborates with Dr. David Kriebel and Dr. Tori Johnson to develop predictive tools for beach nourishment project lifespans. Wargula holds a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the MIT-Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program.
