Anna Steffen, MA, is a Doctoral Researcher affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence ‘Understanding Written Artefacts’ (UWA) and the E Archiving Artefacts group at the University of Hamburg. Her work focuses on medieval archival practices, particularly in Islamicate contexts, with a specialization in 14th-century Jerusalem documents. She has contributed to projects analyzing polycentric archival systems and manuscriptology.
Key research areas include document clustering, pre-Ottoman administrative practices, and the preservation of written cultural heritage. Her recent publications explore record-keeping methodologies in Persianate documents and the creation of estate inventories in historical Jerusalem.
Steffen collaborates on initiatives like the English-Arabic Glossary of Manuscriptology and has presented on archival networks in pre-Ottoman Jerusalem. Her office is located at Warburgstraße 26, Room 3003, Hamburg.
