Anna Nylund is a Professor at the University of Bergen's Faculty of Law, where she chairs the Research Group for Civil Procedure. She is a leading scholar in civil procedure, alternative dispute resolution, comparative law, and children's access to justice, with extensive work in national, European, and comparative civil procedure and dispute resolution systems.
Her research focuses on the preparatory stage of civil proceedings, case management, appellate proceedings, and the mutual influence of European and national civil procedure law. She has extensively examined the intersection between alternative dispute resolution and court proceedings, particularly for civil and family cases. Her work also explores children's rights in the Nordic countries and the family justice system, with particular interest in children's participation in legal proceedings.
Nylund has published 70 articles and book chapters as sole or primary author, edited twelve books, and authored two monographs with two additional co-authored monographs. Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on digitalization of civil procedure, contractualization of litigation, and the impact of the pandemic on justice systems.
She serves in numerous prestigious academic roles including Chair of the Nordic Association of Procedural Law and co-chair of the European Law Institute Nordic Hub. She is also a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, the International Academy of Comparative Law, and the European Association of Private International Law.
Nylund has successfully co-chaired ten international research projects and is currently the principal investigator of the Primary Dispute Resolution project funded by the Norwegian Research Council. Her outreach activities include advising the Norwegian Court Administration and similar Nordic-Baltic organizations on improving civil justice systems, and serving on the Scientific Council for children's rights at Forandringsfabrikken.
At the University of Bergen, she serves as course administrator for Resolution of Commercial Disputes and Child Law, teaching civil procedure law, comparative law, and mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
