Anna M. Massie

Anna M. Massie, DVM, DACVS is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She specializes in clinical orthopedic surgery and small animal surgery, with a focus on regenerative medicine, bone quality assessment/biomechanics, and implant selection and development.

Dr. Massie earned her DVM from the University of Illinois in 2013. Her postgraduate training includes a Small Animal Rotating Internship at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (2013-2014), a Small Animal Surgical Internship at North Houston Veterinary Specialists (2014-2015), and a Small Animal Surgery Residency at the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (2015-2018). She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons-Small Animal.

Her research focuses on biomechanical properties of bone, fracture healing, and surgical techniques in veterinary orthopedics. Dr. Massie's work examines the effects of various surgical techniques and implants on bone healing, with particular emphasis on torsional properties, nonunion fractures, and osteotomy healing in canine patients. Her research bridges the gap between basic science and clinical application, with the goal of improving surgical outcomes for veterinary patients.

Dr. Massie has published numerous articles in veterinary orthopedics spanning from 2015 to 2025. Her work often involves collaborative research with colleagues across multiple institutions.

At the University of Pennsylvania's Ryan Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Massie provides specialized surgical care through the Surgery Department, focusing on orthopedic procedures for small animal patients.
