Anna Louise Custers

Anna Louise Custers is a Lecturer in Poverty Interventions at Hogeschool van Amsterdam since April 2022. She is also the program leader for Poverty and Social Security at the Centre of Expertise Urban Education, focusing on practical, evidence-based approaches to poverty and debt reduction.

• Education: PhD in Economics from Oxford University.

Her research centers on poverty reduction, debt counseling, impact evaluation of interventions, and tax/benefits policy design. She emphasizes collaboration with service professionals and communities affected by poverty to develop actionable solutions.

Recent publications highlight her work on community-based poverty interventions, youth engagement, and optimizing debt counseling pathways. She explores the intersection of taxation, public trust, and social security systems.

Anna actively organizes events and workshops to advance poverty interventions, including the 2025 Werksessie: onderzoek Jongeren en Zorgschulden conference.
