Anna Lintunen is an Associate Professor at the University of Helsinki, affiliated with the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) and Viikki Plant Science Centre (ViPS). She holds roles in the Ecosystem processes (INAR Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry) and Forest Ecology and Management departments. Her research focuses on climate-ecosystem interactions, tree ecophysiology, and boreal forest dynamics. She leads the Ecosystems and Climate Change research group and contributes to the Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center (ACCC) flagship.
Her work examines tree structure/function responses to environmental changes, including drought tolerance, xylem freezing, and carbon allocation. She supervises doctoral programs in Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources and Atmospheric Sciences. Notable projects include ROBAST (bark's role in drought survival) and Climate Positive Agriculture. She has authored 95+ publications and secured funding from the Academy of Finland and Business Finland.
Lintunen is active in conferences, media outreach (e.g., TV documentaries), and policy guidance like the KuntaNielu municipal climate compensation project. Her lab's work spans machine learning applications in ecosystem modeling and long-term field experiments on forest management impacts.
