Dr. Anna Florin is a Lecturer in Archaeological Science at the School of Archaeology & Anthropology, The Australian National University. Previously, she held a Research Fellowship at St John's College and the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge. She earned her PhD in Archaeology from the University of Queensland in 2021.
Her research focuses on archaeobotanical analysis of plant foods, particularly root and tuber vegetables, and their role in ancient diets, migration, and cultural adaptation. Collaborating with Traditional Owners, she examines plant-processing practices and their archaeological signatures. Key areas of study include Australia, New Guinea, and Island Southeast Asia, addressing topics like early human dispersals, climate change impacts, and hunter-gatherer land management.
