Anna Filipi is an Associate Professor at Monash University's School of Curriculum Teaching & Inclusive Education, currently serving as Director of Student Engagement in the Faculty of Education. Her career spans teaching, administration, and research, with extensive experience in language testing, teacher development, and multilingualism. She has led projects on language policy, EAL learners, and international student pathways, contributing to over 95 publications. Her work bridges Conversation Analysis (CA) with practical applications in education, including bilingual family dynamics and early childhood interaction. Filipi has supervised 17+ postgraduate students and received awards for research and supervision. She collaborates internationally, advising on curriculum design in China and Vietnam.
Education & Career: Began as a language teacher, then moved into roles at ACER and VCAA, managing language testing programs and curriculum development. Held leadership positions in Monash's Master of Education (TESOL) and Master of Applied Linguistics programs.
Research Focus: Conversation Analysis applied to child social development, bilingualism, language testing, and classroom interaction. Key areas include storytelling in family settings, spatial discourse, and multilingual practices of international students.
