Anna Collar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on religious practices, pilgrimage, migration, and mobility in the Roman world, with a particular emphasis on epigraphy, sacred landscapes, and social network analysis. She co-founded the Environment and the Sacred research network, exploring intersections between religion and natural environments in antiquity.
- Affiliations: Member of the Parkes Institute, Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, and Ocean Justice Initiative.
- Current research projects include Numen: Natural Places, Religious Experiences and Mobility and Place: Syrian Migrants and New Religions.
Her work combines archaeological evidence with digital tools like VR to analyze spatial and emotional dimensions of ancient religious practices. She has published widely on topics including pilgrimage economies and diaspora communities in the Graeco-Roman world.
