Anna Chatzimichali is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. She is affiliated with The Foundry: Centre for Digital, Manufacturing & Design, the Centre for Regenerative Design & Engineering for a Net Positive World (RENEW), and the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change. Her research focuses on energy systems, sustainable design, and socio-technical interactions in engineering contexts. She holds external roles as a Design Council Expert, Trustee of Designability, and Horizon Expert Evaluator for the European Commission.
Her expertise spans energy policy, smart grids, and the socio-temporal dynamics of energy demand. Recent work explores household energy patterns, collective capabilities in smart grids, and the integration of social practices into energy systems. She also investigates patent document remodeling, human-robot interaction ethics, and ergonomics in composite manufacturing processes.
Anna leads multiple research projects funded by EPSRC and ESRC, including the EDI+ Network+ for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Energy Research and the InterAct Sandpit Project. These address equity in research communities, neurodivergent inclusion, and behavioral patterns in energy consumption. Her work bridges technical innovation with social and policy dimensions, emphasizing cross-sector collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches.
Notable contributions include frameworks for measuring design comprehensibility, privacy-sensitive human-robot interaction models, and methodologies for analyzing manual manufacturing processes. She actively engages with policy-making through submissions to UK Parliament consultations on community energy systems and sustainable transitions.
