Anna Benvenue serves as Associate Professor of Law and Director of JD Flex at Golden Gate University School of Law, teaching Civil Procedure I & II, Constitutional Issues in Immigration Law, and Criminal Law while leading the university's innovative hybrid online J.D. program.

Research Focus: Professor Benvenue specializes in refugee protection systems, social justice litigation frameworks, constitutional challenges in immigrant criminal proceedings, and intersectional analyses of immigration enforcement policies. Her scholarship bridges doctrinal legal theory with direct advocacy, emphasizing systemic reform through strategic litigation and policy innovation.
Professional Leadership: She founded and directed GGU's Immigration Law Clinic, providing experiential training while serving vulnerable communities. As JD Flex Director, she oversees a groundbreaking program enabling specialization without weekday in-person attendance. Her federal appellate expertise includes briefing dozens of Ninth Circuit cases and presenting oral arguments in at least fifteen matters, yielding landmark decisions like Ali v. Holder (2011), Ramirez v. Lynch (2016), Allen v. Milas (2018), and Janjua v. Neufeld (2019).
Practice Background: Prior to GGU, she represented hundreds of clients at San Francisco's leading deportation defense firm, served as Director of Immigration Legal Services for an East Bay nonprofit assisting thousands, and worked as attorney advisor at San Francisco Immigration Court. She remains active in the State Bar of California and American Immigration Lawyers Association.
