Ann Sherif is a Professor of Japanese at Oberlin College, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Japanese Literature from the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on modern Japanese literature, regional publishers, and Hiroshima’s print and visual cultures. She coordinates the Green Legacy Hiroshima Initiative and leads the Environmental Studies Program Committee and Book Studies Concentration Committee.

Research emphasizes 20th-century Japanese publishing, antiwar art, and environmental studies. She organized the digital exhibit Popular Protest in Postwar Japan: The Antiwar Art of Shikoku Gorō, supported by a Mellon Foundation grant. Teaching includes courses on Japanese language, film, literature, and environmental studies in East Asia.
Notable projects include the Green Legacy Hiroshima Initiative and collaborations with Oberlin Libraries. She has been involved in public lectures on Hiroshima survivors and Noh theater.
