Ann Kennedy, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Scripps Research Institute. Her research integrates computational modeling with experimental neuroscience to explore neural mechanisms underlying adaptive behavior, focusing on how brain circuits process sensory and internal states to guide decisions related to survival and social interactions. She holds a PhD in Neurobiology & Behavior from Columbia University and previously served as an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Dr. Kennedy's work combines dynamical systems theory with experimental approaches to analyze neural activity in brain regions like the hypothalamus, basal ganglia, and hippocampus. Her lab develops cutting-edge tools such as the Mouse Action Recognition System (MARS) for automated behavioral analysis and PyRates software for modeling complex neural systems. Current projects investigate neural correlates of aggression, social bonding, and adaptive decision-making in animal models of autism and Parkinson’s disease.
Her honors include the 2024 Pew Scholar Award, 2024 McKnight Scholar Award, and 2023 Sloan Research Fellowship. She serves as Associate Editor for Science Advances and collaborates with institutions globally to advance open science practices.
