Dr. Ann-Kathrin Stalder is a Researcher at the Institute of Geography, University of Bern. Her work focuses on wastewater pollutants, chemical risk assessment, and environmental toxicity. She holds a PhD under the EU Marie Curie Fellowship and has extensive international experience through Fulbright and DAAD scholarships. Her research combines analytical chemistry with epidemiological methods to study drug consumption and pesticide exposure at catchment scales.
Education highlights include:
- Fulbright Fellowship (2010–2012) for Master’s studies at San Diego State University (SDSU)
- DAAD Scholarship (2008–2009) for research at UCSD, San Diego
- Marie Curie Fellowship (2013–2016) for PhD training in the SEWPROF network
Key research interests include:
- In-sewer transformation of drugs and pollutants
- Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) for public health insights
- Toxicity and fate of emerging contaminants
- Sediment and bee bread as environmental biomarkers
Her publications span topics like pesticide mass balance, real-time detection systems, and enantiomeric drug profiling. Notable awards include the 2015 Best Presentation Award at Testing the Waters II conference.
Advancing environmental analysis through inter-laboratory quality control systems and innovative field technologies remains central to her work.
