Ann Bragg is a Professor and Planetarium Director in the Physics Department at Marietta College. She was appointed in 2008 and teaches courses including Astronomy Lab, Classical Mechanics, and Introduction to Astronomy.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard University (2004)
- M.A. in Astronomy from Harvard University (1998)
- B.A. in Physics from Rice University (1996)
Dr. Bragg's research focuses on two primary areas: the evolution of open star clusters through computational simulations, and the impact of planetarium-based instruction on astronomy education. Her work in stellar dynamics employs numerical methods to model cluster evolution over time, while her educational research investigates how immersive planetarium environments enhance conceptual understanding of astronomical phenomena.
Her recent publications reflect a dual emphasis on computational astrophysics and science education. The astrophysics work includes studies on open cluster dynamics and galaxy correlation functions, while the education research centers on developing standards-based planetarium curricula and evaluating their effectiveness in K-12 settings.
As an advisor, Dr. Bragg has mentored several undergraduate students on capstone projects, including Jennifer Kachel, Cavendish McKay, Shelby Lee, A. Parker, D. Bard, and Z. Long, resulting in conference presentations and publications.
She directs the Anderson Hancock Planetarium and leads the (MC)2 Science Collaborative, which develops Ohio standards-aligned planetarium programs.
