Dr. Anke Hennig is a Tutor in the MA Contemporary Photography; Practices and Philosophies program at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Her interdisciplinary research explores intersections of literature, media theory, art, and temporality, with a focus on how visual culture shapes contemporary thought. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from Freie Universität Berlin (2005) and has taught at institutions including Humboldt-Universität Berlin, New York University, and Universität der Künste Berlin.
Hennig's research examines:
- The poetics of time in avant-garde literature and film
- Speculative ontology of language and artistic form
- Russian avant-garde theories of materiality and objecthood
- Intermedial dialogues between text, image, and sound
Her publications consistently investigate temporal structures in art, with recent articles analyzing Soviet cinematic dramaturgy, Russian Futurist linguistics, and the philosophy of artistic time. Recurring themes include revolutionary aesthetics, experimental narratology, and the political dimensions of speculative fiction.
She co-founded collaborative research platforms like Speculative Poetics and the international group Retro-Formalism, facilitating cross-disciplinary dialogues on theoretical innovation. From 2003–2010, she was a fellow at the interdisciplinary research center Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits.
