Dr. Anjali Gupta is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and the Centre for Forensic Science. She holds a PhD from the University of Auckland (2019) and an MSc from the University of Oxford (2011). Prior to academia, she worked as a Data Scientist, Statistician, and Consultant in energy, finance, and marketing sectors from 2012 to 2020. She co-organized the R Ladies Auckland group (2017–2020) and currently serves as a Senior Statistician at Oritain Global Limited.
Her research focuses on forensic trace evidence analysis, Bayesian statistics, and applied statistics in climate science and metabolomics. Notable projects include studying drug consumption patterns via syringe analysis, glass fragment transfer dynamics, and climate change impacts on urban heat distribution.
Dr. Gupta has received awards such as the NZFSS Symposium Award (2023), ANZFSS Symposium Award (2023), and the NZSA Student Talk Prize (2018). She actively reviews for journals like Forensic Science International and The R Journal, and contributes to forensic science societies.
Her academic roles include Lecturer (UTS, 2020–2023) and Visiting Fellow (UTS, 2023–present). Non-academic roles span Senior Data Scientist at Digitas Affinity ID and various industry consulting roles in India and New Zealand.
