Anja Wieden serves as Associate Professor of German in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Oakland University, where she has taught since 2014. Her office is located in O'Dowd Hall, Room 358, and she maintains active engagement in curriculum development and student advising.
Education:
- Ph.D. in German Language and Literature, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Dr. Wieden specializes in Twentieth Century Literature and Film with concentrated research on Gender Studies and postwar German literary discourse. Her scholarly work critically examines female experiences of trauma, particularly rape and hunger narratives in post-1945 German literature. She has pioneered zero-cost educational initiatives since 2019, creating comprehensive course materials for German language and culture courses including GRM 3160/3180, GRM 3400, GRM 4080, and GRM 4570 to eliminate textbook expenses for students.
Professional Leadership:
- Co-adviser for the Oldenburg exchange program in Lower Saxony, Germany
- Former Program Coordinator of German and study abroad advisor at SUNY New Paltz (2010-2014)
