Prof. Dr. Anja Tervooren is a Professor at the Institute of Educational Science, Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Duisburg-Essen. She leads the Childhood Research Working Group and specializes in educational science with a focus on childhood research, particularly childhoods between normalization and disability, ethnographic research, and institutionalization theories.

Research Interests: Her work examines the intersection of difference theory, educational ethnography, and institutional analysis, focusing on how disability, gender, and social norms shape childhood experiences. Publications: Recent works include (De)Institutionalization of Education and Upbringing (2024) and Disability Studies in Educational Science (2024), addressing structural inequities and critical perspectives in early education. Her research spans qualitative methodologies, intersectional approaches, and inclusive pedagogies.
