Anissa Talahite-Moodley is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). Her research and teaching focus on the intersection of migration, gender, and cultural representation in literature, film, and visual arts. She holds a B.A. from the University of Oran and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Leeds.
Her research interests include South African women’s writing during apartheid, North African diaspora literature in France and Canada, and the role of visual media in shaping racial and gendered identities. She has published extensively on topics such as exile discourse in Francophone literatures, masculinity in Algerian cinema, and the works of authors like Ralph Ellison and Farida Belghoul.
Recent contributions include a co-edited special issue on Maghrebi women and a 2020 Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy (UK). She maintains an Honorary Research Associate role at Royal Holloway, University of London, and is affiliated with their Centre for Visual Cultures.
