Dr. Anirban Pal is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at West Texas A&M University's College of Engineering. He holds a B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (2010) and a Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2016), both in Mechanical Engineering. Before joining WTAMU in 2019, he served as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Lecturer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
His research focuses on nano-mechanical behavior of materials, particularly energetic molecular crystals like HMX and RDX, fiber networks, and mechanical/thermal metamaterials. He employs computational tools such as molecular dynamics, density functional theory, and finite element analysis to study material properties at micro- and nano-scales. Key areas include dislocation dynamics, plastic deformation mechanisms, and material stiffness in fragmented continua.
Teaching responsibilities include Programming Fundamentals and Engineering Dynamics. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Materials Research Society, and American Physical Society. His work has been published in journals like Physical Review Letters and Scientific Reports, with an ORCID ID: 0000-0002-0466-0589.
Research emphasizes bridging nano-scale phenomena to macro-scale material behavior, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches in computational mechanics and materials science.
